The Nevada
State Women's Golf Association's Board of Directors met on June 9, 2003, at
Siena Golf Club in Las Vegas. President
Karen Hoppe called the meeting to order after the first round of the state
Partners Tournament.
Present were
Sherry Corsello, D'Anne Daniels, Claudia Chesney, Rene Raynes, Irene Frank, Sherry Jackson, Debbie Schwoyer, Laurie Johnson, Berta Kirchner, Brenda Knott, and
Mindy Zamzow.
D'Anne
presented the Treasurer's report which was circulated to all in
attendance. There was a discussion
of the
expenses for the state book; we will look into the matter.
D'Anne
suggested we have the option of requiring only one signature on our checks
instead of two. It was agreed. Karen and D'Anne will write letters to that
effect to our bank. Also, D'Anne would
like new checks ordered; the older large checks are difficult to transport.
Regarding
tournaments, Irene announced that to date we have only eight entries for our
state amateur. She has placed entry
forms on the registration table.
Irene was
congratulated for her excellent work on the Partner's Tournament.
There was some
discussion about the rates charged by various golf courses and while we might
feel some frustratioin about the rising costs there
seems to be little that can be done about the matter.
Claudia
reported that future northern sites might be Red Hawk or Genoa.
Laurie said
that the Primm for Silver Cup and Boulder Creek for
the Quad are possible.
With some
discussion it was agreed that for next year, at least, we will stay with Silver
Cup in October in Las Vegas even though October will be a more expensive time.
It was brought
up that for Partners we do need a date at which registration shall begin. There would be a statement such as "No
entry before....." The Board agreed
to that proposal and we will discuss it further in January. It was thought that possibly a period of
sixty days before the event would be acceptable.
Irene
introduced the matter of a refund for the player with a death in the
family. It was agreed that a full refund
be given with an adjustment to the prize fund.
Karen brought
up the suggestion by Virginia Bonar (NNWGA President) that we create a division
in our state tournament that would be open to the female golf professionals of
Nevada. The general response to the idea was favorable and we will consider it
further and deal with the idea at the January meeting.
Sherry Jackson
talked with Helen Cannon who was very pleased
to learn that we intended to honor her, as we have Skippy Pasutti, by attaching her name to a flight in the state
championship. It is hoped Helen will
come out to Piaute during the championship in
September so that a presentation can be made.
The Nevada
USGA Team (3 gal) will consist of Laurie
Johnson, Christy Atencio, and the winner of the up
coming Women's Southern Nevada
Championship.
Debbie
reported on NSWGA golf scholarships. The
recipients
each receive $500. They are Jenna Cassell, Las Vegas, and Kassia
Nelson, Reno.
Additionally
Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association provided two $500 scholarships to Darci Sutton, Las Vegas, and Crystal Ponich,
Boulder City.

Kirchner, Volunteer-Temporary Secretary.
